WRITING

Children’s books. Graphic novels. Non-fiction.

It was bound to happen. A storyteller who also illustrates. An illustrator who is also a storyteller.

Here is a collection of books that I’m working on. Please reach for any further information or to review any of the manuscripts you see below.

Are You Beto-beto?

Tama is a small white cat living in rural Japan. One day, after a long morning chasing cicadas and an even longer nap, Tama awakens to discover it’s getting dark and, worst of all, she’s late for dinner!

Forgetting her human Mutsuko’s warnings about yokai - supernatural spirits from Japanese folklore that love causing mischief for late-night travelers - Tama races home. No sooner has she set off than she finds she’s being followed by a Beto-beto, a yokai named for the sound of echoing footsteps.

Will Tama remember what Mutsuko taught her about how to shake a stubborn Beto-beto?

Sage & the Sea Lions

Sage, a young black lab, born and raised on a farm in Idaho, trades open fields for the open ocean when she moves with her human, Garrett, to San Francisco.

At first, Sage hates her new life: the tiny apartment, the wet fog, the hard pavement. She longs for her old life back on the farm: riding on the tractor, chasing the ducks and, most of all, playing with the other farm dogs. Her mind made up to run away, back home to Idaho, Sage hitches a ride on the city’s famous trolley - or “tractor”, as she calls it - which brings her to the biggest “field” she’s ever seen: San Francisco Bay! There’s rolling waves of green to jump in, plenty of “ducks” to chase, and, as she soon discovers, maybe even a few new friends to play with amongst the surf.

With their help, Sage soon discovers that when she stops holding onto the past and embraces change, home is wherever she is!
